mapaMexMexico is a 112,000,000 inhabitant, 2,000,000 square kilometer country located in North America. Mexico is both one of the world's largest economies and a regional power, and since 1994 the first Latin American member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and a firmly established upper-middle income country.Mexico is considered a newly industrialized country and an emerging power. It has the 13th largest nominal GDP in the world, and the 11th largest by purchasing power parity. The economy is strongly linked to those of its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, the United States and Canada. Mexico ranks fifth in the world and first in the Americas by number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites with 31, and in 2007 was the 10th most visited country in the world with 21.4 million international arrivals.

MEXICO CITY

Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and seat of the federal powers of the Mexican Union. It is a federal entity within Mexico which is not part of any one of the 31 Mexican states but belongs to the federation as a whole. Mexico City is the country's largest city as well as its most important political, cultural, educational and financial center.

As an "alpha" global city, Mexico City is one of the most important financial centers in North America. It is located in the Valley of Mexico, a large valley in the high plateaus at the center of Mexico, at an altitude of 2,240 metres (7,350 ft). Avarage temperature is 16o C, rarely exceeding 30o C or decreasing below 0o C.

One of our major concerns is our long standing, international image as a violent country. Violence shown constantly in international media is the result of a frontal, no compromise prosecution of organized crime by the government, and it mainly takes place in a handful of states, all hundreds of kilometers away from Mexico City. Of the total drug-related violent deaths, only 4% are innocent people, mostly by-passers and people trapped in between shootings; 90% accounts for criminals and 6% for military personnel and police officers. As in all big cities around the world, avoiding certain areas, using only certified transportation and following other safety rules that apply anywhere else as well, will make your stay in Mexico a pleasant and safe one.
